The Fatherhood Initiative, Youth For Christ and My Brothers Keeper unite to SAVE OUR YOUTH
Faith-based discussion brings together community service providers & churches to learn what lies beneath the epidemic of youth violence & mobilize to stop it
Rochester Youth For Christ, The Fatherhood Initiative and My Brother’s Keeper are calling all city churches, Christian youth organizations, community service providers and concerned citizens to gather at Youth For Christ, 1 Favor Street, Rochester, NY 14608 on Thursday, July 29 from 11 am – 1 pm to share ideas about the intervention, prevention & diversion of youth violence.
Discussion will be facilitated by Officer Moses Robinson, Community Relations officer at the Rochester Police Department and board member of My Brothers Keeper, the local branch of a nationwide initiative to address the persistent opportunity gaps facing young men of color.
“Kids do to society what’s been done to them,” says Robinson. “The kids who are responsible for violence have all undergone some form of violence or abuse. Our children are the greatest thing we have ever seen in our lives, and some of us are neglecting to nurture them.”

Fatherlessness – A Root Cause Of Youth Violence
Over the past few months, through the Fatherhood Initiative, a growing number of city pastors and church leaders have worked towards helping the children in our city who are struggling without a dad, and helping fathers who don’t know how to parent their children because they never had a good example growing up.
At the first annual Fatherhood Conference on June 5, seventy-two men representing dozens of local churches and youth organizations met to learn how to become godly fathers to our community. They left with a renewed passion to invigorate church youth ministries and establish and grow other youth programs, outreaches, and mentoring opportunities.
As an outgrowth of the Conference, Youth For Christ, Bethel Express, Fatherhood Connection and GO Ministries are partnering to offer courses to train men how to be mentors to fatherless youth. A follow-up Fatherhood Conference 2.0 is planned for October, 2021.
